Leadership: Dance to Dynamic
Dance to Dynamic
As I mentioned earlier, little Miguel loves to dance. In fact I can not think of a week since he was 10 months old that Miguel has not danced. Just to watch him dance freely and openly is a magical sight to experience. It got me thinking of the power to move our bodies and connect with ourselves and others. There was a recent Harvard study on happiness which gave 15 tips on how to be happier. One of the tips was to listen to music. Although there is nothing quite like dancing to one of your favorite songs, many of us dance behind closed doors (or not at all) because we are afraid we are not great dancers. Dancing is about expressing yourself and owning You Inc. We all need to remember that being comfortable in our own skin is very important to helping others reach for their greatness. Not being afraid of making a mistake, not being cool, or not being right all the time. Dancing is a great tool to help you practice doing something different and to connect with others. I actually met my wife Caterine while salsa dancing in New York City when she was visiting from Colombia. When is the last time you danced with a little person in your life, or with your significant other? The next time that great song comes on the radio, or comes on your stereo at home, grab someone close by and have some fun– dance your heart out. The farther you can get yourself out on the creative edge of life, stretching yourself, the more dynamic you will be as a leader.
