“America’s top social impact chef, providing the recipes for young adults to cook up their social impact careers organically every time.”
Mark McCurdy has grown up with nonprofits at the center of his life. Before the age of two years old, three nonprofits changed his life forever. When Mark was growing up in Massachusetts, his father worked as an artist and his mother ran an international nonprofit adoption agency out of his home. You could say, quite literally, Mark was raised in a nonprofit. As a result of this rather unusual, yet highly rewarding upbringing, Mark was instilled with a strong sense of giving back from an early age.
During Mark’s sophomore year at the University of Massachusetts, he had a harrowing brush with death during a school break. Once again a nonprofit (hospital) came to his rescue, and the memory of this life-changing event has deepened his commitment to serve others through the world of service and social impact. In 2000, he began working as a recruiter for nonprofit organizations, first in New York City, then in Washington D.C.
Mark now runs his own business, The Nonprofit Career Coach, to help inspire, teach, and lead students and their parents to maximize their “social impact” in the world.
Mark is the author of the book Strategic Volunteering: 50 Ingredients to transform your life and career.

Student Leadership Powered by Passion and Purpose!
Inspirational keynote for 60 or 90 minutes
(Ideal for conference opening or closing session)
In this inspiring keynote, Mark McCurdy’s natural storytelling ability will lead your audience through several heart-felt stories while delivering an uplifting message sure to touch your students minds and hearts.
Mark mixes inspirational stories with humor and an educational message to uplift audiences so they can experience a rewarding personal and professional life of giving back.
In this dynamic keynote, Mark motivates teens with his three principles for creating a successful future:
Mark says: “Find your passion, live your purpose, and focus on your dream and never quit when faced with obstacles. You will get side-tracked with life now and again, but stay true to your passion and purpose and be guided back to your dreams. Always remember that your family, friends, mentors and community can help you get up when you get knocked down. At the end of your life money is nothing and relationships and memories are everything! Stay true to service and helping others and keep your loved ones close. With a little passion and a whole lot of love you can change the world.”
Get high on Volunteering, NOT drugs, and make a difference in this world.
Your will can kill the urge to use drugs!
30 minutes or 60 minutes
(Keynote, ideal for drug/alcohol awareness)
In this hard hitting and truthful program, Mark gets right to the point about the evils of drugs while stressing the importance of making the right choices. He also illustrates his points with two real life stories of students who made wrong choices. Mark says, “Drugs will kill your life, period. They kill your mind, your body and will eventually kill you. There is no long-term positive effect that can be gained from using or dealing drugs. Everyone needs to make their own decision, no one can make it for you. It’s a choice and you need to have a strong will to say NO!
You need to think of all the positive things you can accomplish while you are on Earth! How many people you can help and how you can make a difference in the world. Think about what it would do to your family, friends and everyone who cares about you if you were to die because of one wrong decision to use drugs!”
