Career Tip #13 – Confidence booster *** To build your confidence, get engaged in (or lead) a pro-bono project in a type of work that you have done before. If you have had experience with preparing tax returns for others, you might offer to teach a tax prep course at one of the local workforce development offices. If you are skilled in events management, then help manage an event for your favorite nonprofit. I have interviewed thousands of individuals, so I do volunteer work in helping others with their interview skills. Confidence increases as we practice what we are […]
18. To improve your health *** Research has demonstrated that stressful living causes excess weight gain and has other adverse effects on your health. By building your self-esteem, your confidence, your love, and your joy, you will discover how to live a less stressful life and overcome unhealthy habits. We have all heard that the buildup of stress can be unhealthy, to the point of being life-threatening. 7. To meet a business associate *** Where did you make your last important business connection? Did you immediately have a sense of trust for that person and his business? The more that business associates trust one another, the better collaboration can take place. I met Paul Hutchinson of Hutchinson Consulting, who is someone I run trainings with now while volunteering at Career Collaborative in 2008. I also met my current marketing consultant, Melissa of MGD Design, volunteering at a nonprofit supper program last year. I felt sure that they would be individuals I could trust, especially since we […]

When focusing on social impact careers, I suggest asking yourself each morning, “For whom am I trying to make a difference?”. Answering this question will empower you with purpose, accelerating your social impact career. Being part of a purpose that is larger than you will help lead your career on an organic path of self development. Life has a habit of bumping us off coarse now and again, and I have found many of my clients, and even myself at times, beginning to sway off course from our true purpose from time to time due to other mitigating factors in our lives. Having a well-defined purpose is a wonderful natural guide back to your purpose of creating impact and making a difference in this world.
